Kedrion specialises in the conversion of plasma to produce coagulation factors and inhibitors, albumin solutions and polyvalent and specific immunoglobulins. These products are called plasma-derived products.
Kedrion’s productive capacity exceeds one million litres of processed plasma a year.
Blood is composed of one liquid part and one cellular part. The liquid part is called plasma. Plasma is a watery solution, containing proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, aminoacids, vitamins, salts (proteins are the main component).
Plasma-derived products are concentrates of some proteins with a high therapeutic value contained in the plasma; the first production step is known as fractionating. They are then converted into pharmaceuticals.
The three main categories of plasma-derived products produced by Kedrion are:
- immunoglobulins
- albumins
- pro-coagulants.
