Humanitarian Factor IX donation to Afghanistan

Kedrion Biopharma recently donated 145 vials of Factor IX to the Kabul Hemophilia Center in Afghanistan. Specifically, the donation was made up of sixty 500 IU vials and eighty-five 1000 IU vials for a total of 115k IU. The product sent by Kedrion will help address the temporary shortage of coagulation factors that must be administered to 30 children suffering from Hemophilia B – two of them serious – who are being treated at the Hemophilia Center set up in the Afghan capital inside the Esteqlal Hospital.

The Italian National Blood Center (CNS) expressed its appreciation for this initiative, while Dr. Arif Oryakhail, Health Coordinator at Italian Development Cooperation – Italian Embassy in Kabul, thanked Kedrion Biopharma officially for its contribution on behalf of the Afghan Ministry of Health, of the hemophilia center in Kabul and of Afghan children with hemophilia. In particular, he emphasized the Company’s immediate response to the serious situation in which patients in Afghanistan find themselves due to the lack of factor IX.
