On World Hemophilia Day 2023, celebrated worldwide every year on April 17, Kedrion Biopharma reaffirms its closeness to patients affected by Hemophilia and other Coagulations disorders, their families and their associations.
The theme of the event this year is “Access for All: Prevention of bleeds as the global standard of care”. Building on last year’s theme, the call for community action in 2023 is to come together and advocate with local policy makers and governments for improved access to treatment and care with a focus on better control and prevention of bleeds for all people with bleeding disorders.
With the aim of expanding access to treatments for these diseases, Kedrion Biopharma has renewed its support to the World Federation of Hemophilia as a Corporate Partner Program by supporting its programs aimed at increasing the number of diagnoses and ensure more equitable and sustainable procurement plans in those countries of the world where the minimum therapeutic standards are still not achieved today.
Kedrion Mexicana, our Mexican subsidiary, supported the Mexican Federation of Hemophilia (FHRM – Federación de Hemofilia de la República Mexicana) for the organization of the group bike ride “2nd RODADA” in Mexico City. This specific event was to promote and show the mobility of patients, thus proving that with the proper treatment and care the range of activities has greatly increased for people with Hemophilia. This also merges with this year’s slogan which is “Access of treatment for all. The prevention of bleeding as the standard of treatment worldwide”.
In Italy, Kedrion celebrated WHD by supporting FedEmo (the Italian Federation of Hemophilia Associations), which organized a workshop at Palazzo Rospigli in Rome to discuss different prospectives on “therapeutic innovation: the new needs in assistance to Congenital Hemorrhagic Diseases.” The event examined the constant progress of clinical research in the field of Congenital Hemorrhagic Disease (MEC), with the aim of stimulating a wide range reflection on the topic, favoring the comparison amongst all the actors involved: researchers, clinicians, patients, representatives of the Ministry of Health and AIFA.
Also in Italy, our commitment alongside the patient community is dedicated to supporting various initiatives, including #KoalaACasaTua: a home delivery service throughout the country of medical specialties for Hemophilia which falls within the scope of Koala, Kedrion’s Patient Support program (PSP) designed for those affected by Congenital Coagulopathies and created by IQVIA Patient Solution.
Since 2017 we are involved in humanitarian projects in support of disadvantaged countries. In 2022, for example, we supported the shipment to Palestine of various medicines made available by the Marche and Emilia-Romagna Regions. This donation is part of the HAEMO-PAL project, an initiative of the National Institute of Health and coordinated by the National Blood Center with the intention of giving support to the Palestinian Ministry of Health to strengthen local clinical centers for the diagnosis and treatment of congenital hematological diseases.
We have also provided logistical and financial support to enable an humanitarian donation of Factor VIII made available for Albania by the Tuscany Region.
